AAggghhh !!! where's common sense

Nature keeps reminding us very often that she is all powerful and we should obey her rules. All the areas that got flooded during this week's "chandamaruta" were previously lakes and tanks, nature's own drainage system. See here

Someone in the adminstration and city planning department forgot to tell Mother Nature that they were sanctioning a layout in a place that was previously a lake and when it rained heavily, mother nature promptly tried draining away the excess water to where it was supposed to go. Lo and Behold all the "low lying" areas were "flooded". I feel very sad for all those people who built their dream homes in these localities, putting in all of their life's savings. The short sighted and corrupt administration are the sole people to be blamed for this.

I only hope that all the thousands of crores of rupees that is being sanctioned for relief does not "drain" away into some middleman's pocket and is utilized for the purpose it is intended for.

At least now we should learn some lessons and try not to tamper with nature and not get in its way. Eventually we will know is the real "boss".

Wishful thinking !!!! you might say ....

Very well said Chinmay!! You couldn't have said it better when you mention about nature being the boss!!

Through many millions of years, nature has had its own way of proving that it is THE boss. The extinction of the mighty dinosaurs is in some sense an example of this. Nature is now playing with the modern day dinosaur - "Man".

I too hope and pray along with you that sense prevails upon us and we subjugate ourselves to nature rather than play around with it.

But the fun part was that people in the "Bondooks" were mostly unaffected by the flooding, while people in "upscale" neighbourhoods got to know how much up the scale the water had risen in their neighbourhood :)

No offence or implied meanness, just couldn't resist ;-)

Excuse me, but it is no more fashionable among political circles to talk about improving Bangalore. They need to declare that they care ONLY about villages and 'show off' that they hate Bangalore. Because it is far easier to fool the villagers. Eventually Bangalore goes up in smoke and they have no money to improve villages either. Not that they _really_ wanted to.
