Rumours can be dangerous
This Sunday (Dec 21) was the pulse polio vaccination drive organized jointly by the Government and Rotary International. I have been a volunteer to this program in the past and know all the hard work that goes into administering the polio vaccine to thousands of babies in the country.
It was really shocking to read about the rumours that were spread across Bangalore on Sunday and the aftermath of that. Thousands of anxious parents thronged hospitals and the situation went totally out of control. The police commissioner had to issue a statement stating everything is fine and nothing to worry.
The TV news channels that beamed these "Breaking news" without verifying its authencity should be banned immediately. I hope such "rumours" do not have an adverse effect on the future pulse polio vaccination drives
